Bob Congdon - Investment Analyst

CongdonBob Congdon joined Spider Management in 2019 as an investment analyst.  Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a major in economics and a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond.  Bob is a CFA Level II candidate.

Cindy Kennon, CPA - Associate Director of Financial Reporting

KennonCindy Kennon joined Spider Management in 2012. Prior to joining Spider, Cindy served as the chief financial officer of Monticello Area Community Action Agency, a regional nonprofit agency. She also worked at Keiter Stephens, specializing in the audits of not-for-profits and broker dealers. Cindy holds a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from James Madison University.

Ellie Sullivan - Investment Analyst

Ellie Sullivan joined Spider Management in 2017 as an investment analyst. Ellie holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond. During her time at the University of Richmond, she was a member of the Student Managed Investment Fund and the varsity women's soccer team. Ellie is a CFA Level III candidate.

Jeff Hires - Director, Public Markets

Jeff Hires has 22 years of investment industry experience and joined Spider Management in 2019.  Jeff focuses on manager selection and asset allocation for the public markets portfolio.  Prior to joining Spider, Jeff was a portfolio manager at Citadel Investment Group in New York where he led a team covering the financial services sector.  Previously, Jeff worked as an analyst at Third Point and Chilton Investment Company and was also the financials sector head at Partner Fund Management.  Jeff holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science in commerce from the University of Virginia.

Jonathan Moore, CPA - Chief Administrative Officer & Chief Compliance Officer

Jonathan Moore rejoined Spider Management in 2018 after previously serving as the director of investment administration at Texas Children’s Hospital for two years.  Jonathan leads Spider's financial reporting and compliance operations functions.  During Jonathan’s prior tenure at Spider from 2011 through 2016, he held various roles including chief compliance officer and director of investment operations & accounting.  Prior to 2011, Jonathan worked at KPMG LLP, where he specialized in audit and risk advisory services for not-for-profit, higher education institutions, and SEC-registered investment advisors.  Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Virginia Tech.

Karen Horn Welch, CFA - Director, Investments

WelchKaren Horn Welch has 21 years of investment industry experience and joined Spider Management in 2016.  Karen is involved in leading asset allocation and manager selection across the portfolio. Prior to joining Spider, Karen worked at Stanford Management Company from 2007 through 2015 where she served as director, portfolio strategy and previously as director, public equity, leading asset allocation, strategy, and the endowment’s public equity and long/short hedge fund portfolio.  Prior to Stanford, Karen worked at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard University, and J.P. Morgan.  Karen holds a Master of Public Administration with a focus on international economics from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in economics and international relations from Bucknell University. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and serves on the Investment Committee of CommonSpirit Health Board of Stewardship Trustees and the Board of St. Christopher’s School. 

Kevin Stoudt, CFA - Director, Venture Capital & Real Assets

StoudtKevin Stoudt has 21 years of investment industry experience and joined Spider Management in 2001.  Kevin focuses on manager selection and asset allocation for venture capital and real assets.  Previously, he was a consulting associate at Cambridge Associates and a statistical analyst at the American Council of Life Insurance. Kevin holds a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University and a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Gettysburg College.

Megan Dickerson - Manager, Compliance & Administration

DickersonMegan Dickerson joined Spider Management in 2009 and is the Compliance & Administration Manager. Prior to joining Spider, Megan worked at the private investment advisory firm, Lowe, Brockenbrough & Company. Megan holds a Master in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Richmond.

Rob Blandford, CFA - President & Chief Investment Officer

BlandfordRob Blandford has 41 years of industry experience and has been with Spider and the University of Richmond since 1999.  Rob leads the investment and firm strategy, particularly related to portfolio management and oversight of all investment decisions.  Prior to becoming president and CIO in 2012, Rob served as the director of investments, working on all aspects of asset allocation, manager selection, and team development. Before joining Spider, he held senior portfolio positions with Lowe, Brockenbrough & Co. and Virginia Retirement System. Rob holds a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Richmond. He is a past president of The Richmond Society of Financial Analysts.

Robin Buterbaugh - Investor Relations Administrative Assistant

ButerbaughRobin Buterbaugh joined Spider Management in 2014. Her prior career history includes ten years of group health sales and marketing, as well as seven years as a retail store owner. As a former military spouse, she also had the opportunity to serve two years in the diplomatic community in Madrid, Spain. Robin is currently continuing her education at the University of Richmond.

Roland Vetter, CPA - Managing Director, Risk Management & Investment Services

VetterRoland Vetter joined Spider Management in 2010 and leads the firm's operational due diligence, performance reporting, and tax functions.  Prior to joining Spider, he worked at the Riverstone Group and the tax practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Roland holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with concentrations in accounting and finance from the University of Richmond.

Sherry Knapp - Executive Assistant

KnappSherry Knapp joined Spider Management in 2012. Prior to joining Spider, Sherry was the executive assistant to the chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and director of investor relations with Albemarle Corporation. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Science in mass communications specializing in public relations from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Stephanie Deck - Manager, Investment Operations

Stephanie Deck joined Spider Management in 2017. Prior to joining Spider, Stephanie served as a community bank portfolio analyst and commercial bank examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. She also previously worked as an analyst at SNL Financial (now S&P Global) in Charlottesville, VA, and was an operations analyst at Promontory Interfinancial Network in Arlington, VA. Stephanie holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Richmond and a Bachelor of Science in management from Clemson University.

Steve Henderson, CFA - Director of Investments

Steve Henderson has 29 years of investment industry experience and joined Spider Management in 2013. Steve is heavily involved in investment strategy, asset allocation, implementation, and manager due diligence.  Prior to joining Spider, Steve held senior investment roles with the $50 billion pension of the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).  At VRS, he served on the management committee setting asset allocation and was also responsible for all aspects of the fixed income program.  Prior to VRS, Steve was a portfolio manager at Mentor Investment Group and an investment analyst with Ryland Mortgage Company.  Steve holds a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond.  Steve serves on the Boards of The Steward School and the Virginia Commonwealth University Investment Management Company.  

Tory Sprehe - Director of Investor Relations

SpreheTory Sprehe joined Spider Management in 2013.  Before joining Spider, Tory worked in marketing and investor relations at Saba Capital Management, a credit hedge fund in New York.  Prior to Saba, Tory was an analyst at an economics and real estate development advisory firm in Maryland. She completed the University of Richmond's Mini-MBA program and received a Bachelor of Arts with honors in urban studies and American studies from Trinity College in Connecticut.  Tory serves on the Children's Museum of Richmond Associate Board and the Better Housing Coalition Young Professionals Board.
