Ali Bayler - Director of Investor Relations

BaylerAli Bayler has served as Spider Management’s Director of Investor Relations since 2010. Prior to Spider, she worked as an equity analyst with Wilbanks, Smith & Thomas, LLC; represented financial and technology clients with a national communications agency in Washington, DC; and most recently led client development and communications teams at global law firms in Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. Ali holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. She also is a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond and has served on the Board of Directors of CARITAS, YWCA, and SCAN.

Chase Fletcher - Investment Analyst

Chase Fletcher joined Spider Management in 2017 as an investment analyst. Chase holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with concentrations in finance and accounting from the University of Richmond.  While at UR, Chase was a member the Spider Men’s Basketball team.

Cindy Kennon, CPA - Associate Director of Financial Reporting

KennonCindy Kennon joined Spider Management in 2012. Prior to joining Spider Management, Cindy served as the chief financial officer with Monticello Area Community Action Agency, a regional nonprofit agency. She also worked at Keiter Stephens specializing in the audits of not-for-profits and broker dealers. Cindy holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting and a Masters of Accountancy from James Madison University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Elizabeth Cohen - Investment Operations Analyst

CohenElizabeth Cohen joined Spider Management in 2008 and is an investment operations analyst, focusing on areas such as accounting and IT. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from James Madison University.

Ellie Sullivan - Investment Analyst

Ellie Sullivan joined Spider Management in 2017 as an investment analyst. Ellie holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond. During her time at UR, she was a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team and the Student Managed Investment Fund.

Gregory Stern - Investment Analyst

SternGregory Stern joined Spider Management in 2016 as an investment analyst. Greg holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond. During his time at UR, he was involved in the Student Managed Investment Fund and the Portfolio Management Group.

Karen Horn Welch, CFA - Director, Investments

WelchKaren Horn Welch joined Spider in 2016 and is involved in leading asset allocation and manager selection across the portfolio. Prior to Spider, Karen worked at Stanford Management Company from 2007 through 2015 where she served as Director, Portfolio Strategy and previously as Director, Public Equity, leading asset allocation, strategy, and the endowment’s public equity and long/short hedge fund portfolio.  Prior to Stanford, Karen worked at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard University, and JPMorgan.  Karen received a BA with honors in Economics and International Relations from Bucknell University and an MPA with a focus on international economics from Harvard University. She is a CFA charterholder and member of Phi Beta Kappa. 

Kevin Bailey, CPA - Associate Director of Performance Reporting & Analytics

BaileyKevin Bailey joined Spider Management in 2011. Prior to joining Spider Management, Kevin worked for four years at Admiral Administration (US) LLC, where he specialized in fund accounting, NAV preparation, due diligence, and AML. Prior to Admiral, Kevin was a fund accountant at James River Financial Corporation. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from James Madison University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Kevin Stoudt, CFA - Director, Venture Capital & Real Assets

StoudtKevin Stoudt joined Spider Management in 2001 and focuses on venture capital and real assets. Previously, he was a Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates and a Statistical Analyst at the American Council of Life Insurance. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from Gettysburg College, a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Liza Scott - Director, Public Equities & Real Estate

ScottLiza Scott joined Spider Management in 2009 and focuses on public equities and real estate. Prior to joining Spider Management, she was an Associate at J.P. Morgan Investment Management in New York. Before attending business school, Liza was a high school teacher at a New York City public school. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in foreign affairs and Spanish from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.  Liza serves on the Virginia College Savings Plan Investment Advisory Committee.

Matt Werner - Director, Credit, Multi-Strategy & Emerging Markets

WernerMatt Werner joined Spider Management in 2005 and focuses on credit, multi-strategy, and emerging markets. Prior to joining Spider Management, he worked as a consultant at Barra, a financial market analytics provider. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Richmond.

Megan Dickerson - Compliance & Administration Manager

DickersonMegan Dickerson joined Spider Management in 2009, and is the compliance & administration manager. Prior to joining Spider Management, Megan worked for four years at the private investment advisory firm, Lowe, Brockenbrough & Company. Megan holds a Master in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Richmond.

Paul Costello - Chief Operating Officer

Paul Costello joined Spider Management in 2013 as chief operating officer. He has previously served as senior managing director and president, business services group at Wachovia Securities, LLC; president and CEO of First Clearing, LLC; chief operating officer of Wachovia Securities, Inc.; and managing director of Mentor Investment Group, LLC.  Most recently, Paul was founding principal of Onyx Associates, LLC, providing management consulting services to investment firms.  Paul has served on the Board of Directors of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, The Steward School, and the World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond.  He has a B.S. in Finance from the University of the State of New York, Regents College and a Masters in Liberal Arts from the University of Richmond.  Paul also completed The Executive Program at the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business Administration.

Rob Blandford, CFA - President & Chief Investment Officer

BlandfordRob Blandford serves as president and chief investment officer, and has been with Spider Management since 1999. Prior to 2012, Rob served as the director of investments, working on all aspects of asset allocation, manager selection, and team development. Before joining Spider Management, he held senior portfolio positions with Lowe, Brockenbrough & Co. and Virginia Retirement System. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Richmond, a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a CFA Charterholder. He is also a past president of The Richmond Society of Financial Analysts.

Robin Buterbaugh - Investor Relations Administrative Assistant

ButerbaughRobin Buterbaugh joined Spider Management in 2014. Her prior career history includes ten years of group health sales and marketing, as well as seven years as a retail store owner. As a former military spouse, she also had the opportunity to serve two years in the diplomatic community in Madrid, Spain. Robin is currently continuing her education at the University of Richmond.

Roland Vetter, CPA - Director of Risk Management & Investment Services

VetterRoland Vetter joined Spider Management in 2010. Prior to joining Spider Management, he worked at the Riverstone Group and the tax practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Roland holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with concentrations in accounting and finance from the University of Richmond, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Shashi Krishnan - Investment Analyst

StoudtShashi Krishnan joined Spider Management in 2015 as an investment analyst. Shashi holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and accounting from the University of Richmond, where he graduated magna cum laude. During his time at UR, he was involved in the Student Managed Investment Fund and the Portfolio Management Group.

Sherry Knapp - Executive Assistant

KnappSherry Knapp joined Spider Management in 2012. Prior to joining Spider Management, she was the executive assistant to the CEO, CFO, and Director of Investor Relations with Albemarle Corporation. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Science in mass communications specializing in public relations from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Simon Guenzl - Director, Private Equity

StoudtSimon Guenzl joined Spider Management in 2015 as director of private equity, focusing on leveraged buyouts and growth capital. Before joining Spider Management, he held senior roles in the private equity industry at Paul Capital Partners and Sprout Group. Prior to these positions, Simon worked in investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and Lehman Brothers, and as an attorney both in the United Kingdom and Australia. Simon holds a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws from The University of Western Australia, and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School.

Stephanie Deck - Senior Analyst, Information Systems & Operational Processes

Stephanie Deck joined Spider Management in 2017. Prior to Spider, she served as a community bank portfolio analyst and commercial bank examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Stephanie also previously worked as an analyst at SNL Financial (now S&P Global) in Charlottesville, VA, and was an operations analyst at Promontory Interfinancial Network in Arlington, VA. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Science in management from Clemson University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Richmond.

Steve Henderson, CFA - Director of Investments

HendersonSteve Henderson joined Spider Management in 2013 as director of investments, and is involved in investment strategy, asset allocation, implementation, and due diligence. He has more than 25 years of investment experience, including his previous role as program director of fixed income with the more than $50 billion pension of the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). At VRS, Steve was responsible for all aspects of the fixed income program, and served on the management committee, setting asset allocation strategy, working with the board of trustees, and identifying new investment strategies. Prior to VRS, Steve was a portfolio manager at Mentor Investment Group and an investment analyst with Ryland Mortgage Company. Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond, a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Tory Sprehe - Investor Relations Manager

SpreheTory Sprehe joined Spider Management in 2013.  Before joining Spider Management, she worked in marketing and investor relations at Saba Capital Management, a credit hedge fund in New York.  Prior to Saba, Tory was an analyst at an economics and real estate consulting firm in Maryland.  Tory holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors in urban studies and American studies from Trinity College (Conn).
